Smartmontools provides you with a set of console applications that enable you to monitor storage systems using the S.M.A.R.T technology.
The Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology System is integrated into the modern ATA and SCSI disks.
Smartmontools includes three tools: smartctl (offers information and gives you control over the the devices), smartd (perform SMART testing) and wtssendmsg (displays messages on client desktops).
